Welcome to the Wonderful World of Piano!
You may have signed up for this course for a number of reasons. Maybe you've had some experience at the keyboard. Maybe the very thought of the piano makes you quake in your boots. I can promise you two things: you will gain valuable musical skills in my class and the piano will not bite you!
Throughout the year, we will be working from the "Adult All-In-One Course" by Palmer, Manus and Lethco. We have a class set of books, so you do not need to purchase anything for this class! If you have a keyboard or piano at home and wish to practice at home, feel free to buy your own copy, but that is not an expectation in this course.
The number one thing to remember is don't be intimidated by the music or the instrument. Everyone will be moving at their own pace through the books. The goal is to familiarize yourself with the piano; you don't have to be a concert pianist to do well in this class.
An hour and a half is a long time for a beginner to practice at the piano. I understand that and want to emphasize the importance of building good posture habits. Because of this, the class will be taking several two-minute stretch breaks each period. In order for everyone to get the most out of class, I need you to stay focused and on task during your sessions at the piano by saving unnecessary movements and conversation for our regularly planned breaks.
